Regular microbiological services and consultations to meet the needs of the in, out and ex-hospital patients as determined by Medical staff. Any other assignment given by Supervisor or Management.
Supervision of all Microbiology staff, ensure the supply and storage of all the essential materials. Ensure the proper maintenance of all records and to produce then as and when required. Ensure that all the specimens to be sent to the Ministry of Health are maintained and transported as required. To maintain all the Infection Control records and helps the Infection Control Nurse. Examination and reporting of the cultures of all the clinical samples. Carrying out their further processing and offering supportive evidences of the tentative diagnosis made by the Clinician, with reasonable assurance. Supervise the technical staff and be able to provide them all the technical guidance as and when required. Supervise the work pertaining to the Infection Control of the hospital and evaluate the status of the nosocomial infections. Play a major role in upgrading the Microbiology Laboratory by introducing new and more sensitive methods of existing investigations. Play a major role in educating the nurses about their responsibilities in patient’s care where Microbiology is concerned, for e.g. sample collection, infection control etc. should bear the responsibility of educating and upgrading the technical staff when essential. A periodic evaluation of the technical staff should be carried out by the Microbiologist. Regular evaluation of the quality of work carried out in the laboratory should be carried out by link-up with an international agency and also blind checks among the technicians for internal quality assurance. By maintaining a professional relation with the staff and be able to supervise them with efficiency. Coordinate with Chief in all matters. Attends Continuing Education, Infection Control and Performance Improvement programs to keep updated with the current practices.
Shall be a member of Royal College of Pathology in UK/Europe or equivalent qualification from western country. Doctorate degree in Microbiology from a recognized university. Current license to practice in country of origin.
Have at least five (5) years post-graduate experience as Consultant Microbiologist in a multi-specialty hospital.
