This post is the administrative head of the department and could be held by a situable consultant in Restorative Dentistry, oral and Maxillofacial Surgery or in Orthodontics. Any other assignment given by the Chief Medical Officer or the Management.

Ensure that a regular review and evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of dental care is carried out through designated Quality Assurance Mechanism. Continually monitor the professional performance and ethical behaviour of departmental staff with the rendering of regular reports on each staff member at least at the time of reappraisal/reappointment. Make recommendations to the Credentials Committee concerning the appointment, reappointment and clinical privileges to be granted to each dentist. Set priorities for departmental work to ensure the completion of essential work on a daily basis, including approval of work schedules to maintain departmental effectiveness and efficiency. Assume responsibility for implementation within the department of actions taken by the Medical Advisory Committee and approved by the Hospital Director. Prepare and enforce departmental policies and procedures and rules and regulations. Establish and implement continuing education programmes and assure the participation of department members in continuing education programmes and required meeting. Appoints committees as needed to conduct departmental functions. Plan for improved departmental services and advise on any renovations or new construction involving the department’s facilities or services. Participate in departmental budgetary planning and use of departmental systems, equipment, supplies and other resources. Ensure a safe, clean, uncluttered and pleasant departmental environmental for staff, patients and visitors. Treat patients according to the needs of the department. Chair all department meetings, or assign a deputy to do so. Perform other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills and abilities. Attends Continuing Education, Infection Control and Performance Improvement Programs to keep updated with the current practices.


Dental degree for a recognized dental school. B.D.S./D.D.S. or equivalent. PhD or Master’s Degree and/or board certification in a specialty area (USA) or Fellowship (UK) or equivalent from other countries.

Five years in practice as a consultant in the specialty after obtaining the fellowship or higher qualification. Previous administrative experience in charge of academic or clinical unit. Previous teaching experience and organizing teaching programmes. Published work investigates or research.
